Qigong & Sound Therapy @ Hudson Gardens

Qigong Movement: Participants will learn how to cultivate and balance their qi, or life force energy, through the practice of movements that promote relaxation, flexibility, and strength. In addition, we’ll practice calming our minds and cultivating a sense of inner peace through mindfulness and meditation. I also play a few of my singing bowls to round out the experience.

Qigong movement classes are suitable for all levels. You can stand, sit, or even lie down while practicing Qigong. From beginner to advanced, these movements are a great way to improve overall health and well-being, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote a sense of inner harmony.

Sound Therapy + Meditation: The last portion of class will be devoted to sitting in stillness practice. I will be playing a few of my singing bowls during this time.

Bring: Water to hydrate and a mat if you prefer. Dress in layers. If you would like to do Qigong Movement while sitting, you are welcome to bring a chair.

The 8 Brocades (Ba Duan Jin) is one of China’s oldest and most widely practiced forms of Qigong. Developed over 1,000 years ago during the Song Dynasty (960–1279 CE), this traditional practice consists of eight gentle, flowing movements designed to cultivate energy (Qi), improve physical vitality, and promote deep relaxation.

In this 3-class series, students will learn the history and the complete 8 Brocades sequence through mindful movement, coordinated breathing, and focused awareness. The practice helps improve balance, flexibility, posture, circulation, and overall well-being while reducing stress and tension. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels, the 8 Brocades offers a simple yet powerful pathway to greater health, vitality, and inner calm.

Singing bowls are played throughout our movement class with a short sound bath at the end.

No prior experience is necessary. Movements can be adapted to individual abilities, making this an accessible and rejuvenating practice for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

This program is ideal for individuals seeking to reduce stress, increase vitality, and connect with their inner peace in a deeply restorative and nurturing way. No prior experience in Qigong or sound therapy is required, as the session is accessible to all levels.

She guides the meditation and visual anchoring practices in this experience.

Judy Thurman is a sound therapist and Qigong practitioner with over 20 years of experience using sound, movement, and Eastern healing traditions to support relaxation and balance. She leads the sound bath portion of this offering.

Gongfu tea is a traditional Chinese tea ceremony that dates back to the Song Dynasty and is known for its elegance, simplicity, and focus on the sensory experience of tea. During the ceremony, Judy will brew a selection of high-quality Chinese teas using traditional Gongfu tea brewing techniques. The tea is served in small, Yixing clay cups, allowing participants to savor the flavors and aromas of each tea.

As we enjoy tea together, Judy will be guided through each step with a true sensory experience, including the appearance, aroma, and taste of each tea. She will also be sharing ancient stories of wisdom from the sages as well as playing a few of my singing bowls to round out the experience.

After sharing cacao together, we’ll move into a soothing mini sound bath, gentle movement practices, and other creative rituals designed to honor your journey. You’ll also have space to settle inward with meditation, journaling, and quiet reflection on the experience.

Attire: Wear comfortable, loose fitting layers for ease of movement and warmth, as you’ll be sitting/lying down, and it can get cool.
